Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication
The story of Red Hot Chili Peppers began in 1978 in California, when high school students Anthony Kiedis and Michael Flea Balzary decided to start a band.
After many name and line-up changes, the Red Hot Chili Peppers band was formed in 1983. And since then RHCP from Hollywood create one of the most energetic sounds in the history of music – they are based on classic funk (Parliament and Funkadelic), American punk rock and hardcore guitar riffs.
The first album of the boys, entitled “Red Hot Chili Peppers”, was released in 1984. However, it did not achieve any special success, and the band was still looking for the right sound. A year later Hillel Slovak joined the group, who brought new ideas and already with his participation another album was created – “Freaky Styley” (1985). But only the next album “The Uplift Mofo Party Plan”, which contained more aggressive and wild songs, was much better received and the band began to gain more and more popularity.
However, 1988 brought tragic accidents, as a result of a heroin overdose, Hillel Slovak died, and Anthony Kiedis came out of the addiction only after a long treatment. And it was Slovak’s memory that was dedicated to the song “Knock Me Down” from the next album, entitled “Mother’s Milk” (1989). It should also be mentioned that it was this album that brought the group commercial success. The young musician John Frusciante became the new guitarist. The group was also joined by a new drummer – DH Peligro – a member of the legendary group Dead Kennedys.
In 1991 the album “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” was released, recorded by the excellent producer Rick Rubin. It can be said that it was this album that became a real breakthrough in the career of RHCP. The album contained such hits as “Give It Away”, “Breaking The Girl”, “Under The Bridge” (awarded with MTV Awards). The latter reached the top places of almost all combinations. In 1994 they played at the Woodstock II festival in costumes resembling light bulbs. Red Hot Chili Peppers have also become the main star of the Lollapalooza festival.
