Primus - Here Come The Bastards

Primus

Primus is an American music group performing alternative rock with funk, heavy metal and psychedelic influences.
Primus was founded by Les Claypool in 1984. The first phase of the group’s activity lasted until 1996, when the drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander left the band. His successor was the group’s longtime friend, Brian “Brain” Mantia. The years in which “Brain” arrived in the band can be conventionally included as the second stage. When he left after three years, Primus’ activity was suspended.
The band reactivated in 2003, starting the next, third stage of their activity.

Primus made his original debut with the concert album “Suck on This” in 1989. The next two releases, “Frizzle Fry” (1990) and “Sailing the Seas of Cheese” (1991) were already studio albums.

On the next album, “Gone Fishing” (1992) again returned to the presentation of their concert feats.

“Tales from the Punchbowl” – the fourth studio album of Primus, brought them the greatest commercial success. The publisher obtained the status of a gold record. His song “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver” was extremely popular. The composition received a Grammy nomination in the Best Hard Rock Performance category, and the music video was recognized as one of the best music videos of the year by Rolling Stone magazine.

Primus’ work is characterized by humorous lyrics and the prominent role of the bass guitar. Among other things, the band became famous for recording the opening credits to the popular adult cartoon South Park.

Members of Primus have performed on several Tom Waits records: Bone Machine (Claypool and Brain), Mule Variations (Claypool, Brain and LaLonde), Real Gone (Brain and Claypool), Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards (Brain and Claypool) and Bad As Me (Claypool).
On August 9 and 10, 2022, Primus played the South Park 25th Anniversary Concert alongside Ween and South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. It was broadcast on Comedy Central on August 13 and on Paramount+ on August 14.
